La Liga Watch: Real Madrid v Atlético Madrid

This promises to be a mouth watering game, with both sides having invested heavily during the summer transfer window:

Real Madrid
  1. Jerzy Dudek
  2. Christoph Metzelder
  3. Pepe
  4. Javier Saviola
  5. Royston Drenthe
  6. Wesley Sneijder
  7. Arjen Robben
  8. Gabriel Heinze

Atlético Madrid
  1. Diego Forlan
  2. Simao Sabrosa
  3. Luis Garcia
  4. Raul Garcia
  5. Jose Antonio Reyes.

From the Real Madrid perspective, they certainly have a very big and undoubted talented squad. However, by all accounts and pre-season match reports, the team hasn't played all that well. However, that is to be expected, as they have a new coach with new ideas.

On the flip side, the Real Madrid fans (and board members) are not a patient lot, and Bernd Schuster does not have the luxury of waiting for his team to gel. Winning the La Liga crown in your first season does not even guarantee you your job. So, expectations on Bernd Schuster is to produce a new all conquering Real Madrid team that play swashbuckling Arsenal-lisque football, with the efficiency and commitement of Capello's Real Madrid team.

Atlético Madrid suffered a huge loss when they lost their captain and star player Fernando Torres. However, they deffinately appear to have spent their money wisely, as the list above shows. They should have more than enough firepower, granted they play well to challenge for major honours this season, and i fully expect them to do so.

Diego Forlan and Sergio Aguero appear to have formed a good partership, and the midfield promptings of the Garcia's ,Luis and Raul together with the Reyes factor should make this quite a season for Atlético Madrid fans.

Predictions: Real Madrid 3 -
Atlético Madrid 2
