Will Datuk Azzuddin be the one to lead Malaysian football back to glory?

Sometime this week, it is expected that Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad will be announced as the new Secretary General of FAM. The other 2 candidates, Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat, the current FAM disciplinary board chairman, and FA of Selangor (FAS) secretary Hamidin Mohd Amin, apparently don't have a prayer, as Sultan Ahmad Shah (the president) favours Datuk Azzuddin.

Even so, the dude has a footballing background, having played for the national team in the '70s as well as the Armed Forces for 9 years. Furthermore, after retirement he became an independent member of the FAM, disciplinary board chairman for three years and at one point, was also the referees’ chairman.

His last footballing stint was as manager of the Malaysian U-20 squad for the Asian Championships 2004, where Malaysia qualified for the q-finals for the first time.

So, on paper, one can say that our FAM president deffinately has found his man, someone with "brains", as he so eloquently put it. Lets hope Datuk Azzuddin can foster a golden era for Malaysian football and bring back the golden years.
